Introduction

This project is a theoretical rebrand of the United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service—created by me, during the autumn branding course (Design 4103 – 2023) at The Ohio State University.

During this course we were asked to either refresh an existing brand, or create an entirely new brand; of which to produce a visual identity for.

Typography

Primary Typeface

Designed by Cadson Denmak, a Thai communication design firm, Chakra Petch is a square sans serif typeface that serves as the primary typeface for the brand.

Secondary Typeface

Interstate is a typeface designed by Tobias Frere-Jones in the 90’s. The typeface is based on Style Type E of the FHWA series of fonts, a signage alphabet drawn for the United States Federal Highway Administration by Dr. Theodore W. Forbes in 1949.  For the brand, Interstate serves as the typeface for sub-headings and
body copy.

Color Palette

The color palette is inspired by the mission of the department itself. With green hues representing the earthy tones commonly found in nature, and accent colors representative of fire and the
sky above.

Applications

Designed by Cadson Denmak, a Thai communication design firm, Chakra Petch is a square sans serif typeface that serves as the primary typeface for the brand.
